Tension is high in Tabolwa-Kanin village on the border of Nandi and Kakamega counties after fresh clashes erupted on Friday, leaving two people dead.
One was fatally shot by police while the other succumbed to injuries while being rushed to hospital.
Five others are nursing injuries at Malava Sub-County Hospital. The dead were identified as Kelvin Kipchumba and Boniface Kiprotich, both from Nandi County.
Kakamega County Commissioner Pauline Dola and her Nandi counterpart Kutswa Olaka were on Friday locked in a security meeting with elders from both communities in efforts to calm the tension.
Mr Olaka asked residents to provide information that would help them with investigations.
He noted that land officials from both counties will start demarcation.
Law enforcement agents from both sides have been deployed in the disputed area to handle any eventuality.
Residents claimed that the 13.7 acres escarpment land, along the border, belongs to the family of Goe Maiywo, who received the title deed after the completion of land adjudication last year.
“Mr Maiywo has the title deed for this land and hence I would ask the government to step in and solve this problem”, said Francis Murgor, lawyer of the affected family.
Kabras East MCA Anaswa Lazarus asked land officers from the two devolved units to resolve the land dispute.
