National Assembly Speaker wants case on land dismissed

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has asked a court to dismiss a petition seeking to compel the House to pass a law recommending minimum and maximum land holding acreages by private individuals. Yesterday, the Speaker through Senior Deputy Clerk Serah Kioko said the petition by Amos Muchiri lacked merit and was abuse of the court process.

Muturi censured Muchiri for suing him in his personal capacity while the orders sought were directed at Parliament. Muturi explained that the Speaker, being an ex-officio member is not the proper party to be sued but the House which does legislative business.
