Surveyors body asked to go after rogue land dealers.

The Cabinet Secretary Housing and Urban Development James Macharia cautioned real estate developers against breaching professional ethics.

Speaking during a recent land and property sector conference organised by Institute of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK), in Nairobi, the CS urged the professional body to take legal action against rogue land dealers. The lack of ethics and standards evidenced by collapsing of buildings, others being built on riparian zones; on sewer lines, under high voltage power lines and on road reserves. The truth of the matter being that some of these buildings were designed and supervised by professionals.

ISK has a statute that seeks to promote self-regulation among land sector professionals and proposes the criminalizing of unqualified persons. With this in place, there is need to see disciplinary action taken against rogue professionals.
