Woes in the way of Lapsset finally addressed

The government has resolved issues that threaten to slow down the development of the Shs. 2.5 trillion Lamu Port South Sudan Ethiopia Transport (Lapsset) project.

Lamu’s County leaders led by Governor Fahim Twaha met the project’s officials in a bid to resolve the issues affecting residents. The meeting however, ended prematurely as the Governor and the leaders stormed out of the meeting.

Lapsset board of director’s chairman Titus Ibui together with all the leaders affirmed that they had agreed on the way forward. Among the issues they addressed were payment of Shs. 272 million which the project owes the County as cess and land rates, compensation for land owners, employment opportunities for the locals as well as education scholarships.

Mr Ibui said they will compensate all the affected parties and the 600 students who are yet to get a scholarship will soon benefit.
