A landlords lobby group has called on the national and county governments to partner with them to solve the housing crisis in the country. The Urban Landlords and Tenants Association of Kenya (UNLAK) said the president’s affordable housing plan can only be realised through a partnership where the governments provide land and infrastructure while the association puts up the cheap houses.
Speaking during a press briefing in Nairobi on Sunday, UNLAK Chairperson Rachel Arunga, a former Special Programmes PS under the Kibaki government and later a Public Service Commission member, said they have a campaign dubbed Urban Development and Services Initiative to promote construction of new rental units in existing urban areas.
She said the association is seeking 10,000 acres in all the counties to actualise the plan, saying the move would help in stemming the rural-urban migration.
