Kisii land rregistrar Steve Mokaya has revealed that sensitive land documents obtained illegally are in the hands of land grabbers. Mr Mokaya said there is no reason to worry with critical documents such as blank title deeds and green cards being held by cartels.
Speaking in Kisii, Mr Mokaya said some parcels of land reported to have been grabbed were registered using the stolen documents. Mr Mokaya said the aim of overhauling staff at the lands office was to destroy the cartels that had compromised government employees to facilitate illegal transactions.
Mr Mokaya was arrested over two months ago by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption officials who alleged that they had arrested him with treated money. However, the land’s registrar denied the allegations, saying the officials are harassing him at the behest of land grabbing cartels.
Mr Mokaya revealed that as a measure to guard public and private land, the county and national governments had completed digitising land records. He said once the records have been verified, his bosses from the ministry of lands headquarters will launch the digital system which will enable all residents to check their land records online without any challenges.
